The more connections and diversity, the stronger the community...
How does a community survive and thrive indefinitely? What are the systems that communities throughout history have set up that keep them alive and healthy? How do these systems work to create a sound ecological balance and increase the health and productivity of the land?
We are social organisms. We only achieve our maximum potential by engaging in dynamic social relationships. The same could not be more true of our landscapes. Cooperation among the organisms in our landscapes is far more prevalent than competition. The very process of transforming biochemical energy in a form available for cellular growth and function in our bodies is a cooperative relationship between bacteria dating back to the first faint stirrings of life on our planet.

Planning social spaces within our projects strengthens and stabilizes other features of our design work. The following community modules explore how social dynamics relate to a complete design. These modules should be designed into nearby lots throughout the neighborhood as a means to share resources, create connections, and strengthen community.
